Topics Essay Writing Austin Community CollegeAustin Community College's Office of Information Technology, Services, and Instruction offers a number of student-centered workshops and classes to assist students in writing essays on a variety of topics. Students may be grouped into academic and non-academic groups and assigned specific topics based on their interest and level of writing proficiency.During the Fall Semester, 'Writing Essays for Septembers' is the highest-level workshop, and it is offered every month throughout September. It is designed for the student who has recently graduated and may be repeated each semester thereafter. Students learn how to write academic essays with an eye toward academic excellence. Topics include university awards, yearbook and diploma reviews, critical reading and research, and performance reviews.'Essay Writing for the General' is a more hands-on workshop for students interested in making their essays a little more personal. It teaches students how to craft their writing by researching, determining relevance, and then creating a final draft. Students are encouraged to use the information found in the research session to improve their topic or statement. The final draft is then presented to the instructor for approval.'Essay Writing for the General II' is a more advanced workshop for those already writing their first essay. It is also used as a preparatory course for courses such as writing for the school or the college-level reading exam. The workshop focuses on essay structure, question answering, and a wide range of other topics.'Essay Writing for the General III' is for students who have not yet begun to write an essay. A sample assignment, however, is available. This workshop is available only during the Spring Semester and is suitable for students who are planning to begin an essay in the upcoming Fall semester.'Reading Essays' is an instructional workshop that gives students the opportunity to read a variety of essay s written in different versions. Students are given a topic to which they must respond.'Writing Non-Traditional Essay Topics' is a workshop for those who have yet to write an essay. These students are encouraged to research and conduct interviews to determine which topics will most interest them. This workshop features the basic materials that any college-level essay requires.All workshops vary slightly in focus and structure. One thing that they all share is the goal of helping students improve their skills in academic writing. Essay writing will never be the same again!
